October Scare: Top 10 Halloween Reads

Welcome to another October Scare. This time I will be listing my top 10 favourite Halloween books/series. These are not necessarily horror books. But all of them have a creepy atmosphere. So here they are...

Halloween Read #1
This had to be at the top of my list because it is the most scary and creepy horror story I've read so far. Especially the first half of the book, where we still had no idea what the heck was going on, was terrifying. This plays out like a horror/thriller movie and I loved it. But, this is totally an adult book so beware, there is gore, there is murder and there is violence.

Halloween Read #2
I've read the Midnighters trilogy a few years ago, before I had a blog, or even a goodreads account, so I just found this book and it sounded so cool I had to buy it. Midnighters are people who where born on midnight. For them there is one extra hour each day, right after midnight, where everything else and everyone else is frozen and technology doesn't work. But unfortunately for the Midnighters there are other things that walk the secret hour. This was a great series, with a very peculiar set of characters, great use of maths and a not-so-happily-ever-after ending that I loved.

Halloween Read #3
Back in 2011, I believe, I was part of the blog tour for this one. I didn't know back then that I'd end up loving this book so much. I love ghost hunter movies and this is pretty much it. A group of people decide to film inside a haunted asylum in order to see if they can get any sign of ghost activity. Obviously all hell breaks loose. But this is not just a simple ghost story, there is a big mystery surrounding the asylum which the main character is trying to work out.

Halloween Read #4
What would my list be without some R.L. Stine (there is more in #9)? I grew up reading Goosebumps, the original series, by R.L. Stine and as the years went by I became more and more curious about the rest of his books, so the past few years I've been reading a lot of them. The Cheerleaders pentalogy was a series that kept me on my toes. I loved it even though I wasn't a big fan of the characters, that didn't really distract me from the main focus of the book, the chill factor.

Halloween Read #5
Gretchen McNeil's books always have that creept atmosphere that might just keep you awake during the night. This book had some pretty scary exorcisms. And some dolls, 'cause that's always terrifying. Even though this book is not really a horror book it still had a great atmosphere making it really eerie.

Halloween Read #6
Yet another book that isn't really horror but it's very frightening. Well this is actually three books in one and each book features a different creepy game with the same set of players. First off, I loved the idea of the games. I especially liked the first one, a creepy house where each room was someone's worst fear and the last one, the haunted amusement park.

Halloween Read #7
I loved this book. I have to admit I've never read And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie so I didn't know what was going to happen so it was a big surprise for me. Ten kids go to an island and one by one they end up dead. Simple, yet so amazingly executed.

Halloween Read #8
This is a perfect Halloween read. Just by reading the title you can tell what it's all about. Spooking you. This had a great story, some very creepy moments, a killer, a mystery, a great guy and some weird organization. Pretty much every I want in a book. It's also very small so you can get through it really fast. I just hope there is a sequel coming our way.

Halloween Read #9
Halloween Party, yeap, this is what this book is all about. A Halloween Party gone bad. Terry and 8 of his classmates are invited to an exclusive Halloween party of the old Cameron Mansion that is said to be haunted. Their hostess, Justine, has prepared a whole night of scares and surprises for them. But they don't know how grave some of those surprises are. Not all of them will make it out alive.

Halloween Read #10
Just by the cover you can tell this is a perfect book for Halloween. Firstly, this book takes place during Halloween. Also, the first couple of chapters for each of the three PoVs is like a horror movie. After that there is the whole mystery of finding the Doctor, so it's not as scary. Still this is great for people who want to get a scare during Halloween but still be able to sleep at night.
